Samuel Sparks Lamb, recognized as the “Father of Palmetto,” came from Mississippi to settle the area in 1868, surveying the land, plotting the lots, and establishing the Palmetto, FL, post office. The community saw most of its growth after the arrival of a railroad line from Bradenton to Sarasota in the early 1900s.
