How to Change Your Audio Source From Your Hearing Devices to Speakerphone or iPhone

by | Oct 9, 2024 | Uncategorised

Modern hearing devices are equipped with advanced features that allow for seamless connectivity with your smartphone, making phone calls and listening to media more convenient.

However, there may be times when you want to switch between your hearing aids and speakerphone or your iPhone’s built-in speaker during a call. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to change your audio source from your hearing devices to speakerphone or iPhone.

Watch the video below for a quick demonstration:

Changing Your Audio Source During a Call

If you’re on a call and need to switch between your hearing devices and the phone’s audio options, follow these simple steps:

  • 1. Press the Audio Button: During the call, press the audio button on your iPhone.
  • 2. Check the Default Source: You’ll see a checkmark next to your name, indicating that your hearing devices are selected by default.
  • 3. Switch Audio Sources: Select either:
  • Speakerphone: This allows everyone nearby to hear the conversation.
  • iPhone: You’ll need to hold the phone to your ear to listen.

Changing the Default Settings on Your iPhone

To prevent your iPhone from automatically routing calls to your hearing devices, follow these steps to adjust the default settings:

  • 1. Go to Settings: Open the settings menu on your iPhone.
  • 2. Navigate to Accessibility: Select “Accessibility” and then “Hearing Devices.”
  • 3. Change Audio Routing Settings:
    • Call Audio: Select “Audio Routing” under call audio and choose “Never Hearing Devices” to default all future calls to your iPhone instead of your hearing aids.
    • Media Audio: If you want to change media settings (podcasts, music, FaceTime, etc.), select “Media Audio” and choose either:
      • Automatic: This will default media audio to play through your hearing devices when they are being worn.
      • Never Hearing Devices: This will default media audio to play through your iPhone.
